Upcoming ALA and AIC Conferences

The American Library Association Annual Meeting is coming soon to New Orleans. Now is about the time everyone starts asking each other, “When does the Preservation Section meet again?” I’m a culprit in never keeping straight the Friday/Saturday or Saturday/Sunday schedule that switches between Midwinter and Annual. ALA published the preliminary program yesterday (see page 76 for the PARS programs). The answer is Annual = Sat/Sun, June 25-26, 2011.  This just in: Preservation Administration Interest Group meets on Friday, June 24th.

If anyone out there is going to Annual and would like to submit some notes on the sessions you attend, please let us know. We would love to hear from you.

P.S.: ALA, could you please focus on providing adequate search and discovery functions rather than cute presentations of your program? I don’t need to pretend to turn pages of a program to make me feel better, I just need a link to the schedules of programs. Thanks.

The American Institute for Conservation‘s annual meeting is May 31-June 3, 2011, in Philadelphia. The schedule at a glance will give you the basics to plan your trip. A PDF of the Registration Book is available for download. Book and Paper Group sessions are described on pages 12-14 of the PDF (pg. 10-12 of the paper version). This year’s theme is Ethos Logos Pathos: Ethical Principles and Critical Thinking in Conservation.

Again, if anyone is going and would like to submit some notes, please contact us. I will be attending but there are always more talks you want to attend than you are able. We are happy to post from any specialty group sessions.

  1. Amen, and yes please. I so appreciate those who go to the extra effort to report on these meetings. I’m really sad I’ll not be at the AIC meeting as some of the keynote presentations look very interesting – especially the one by Salvador Muñoz-Viñas. (It would be sweet if AIC would record these talks.)

And a big, ink-stained thumbs down to ALA’s gimmicky program site.

  2. […] ALA travel.  PAIG used to be called PADG back when interest groups were discussion groups.  Check our recent post for the schedule of other interest group meetings at the upcoming ALA in New Orleans in June […]

  3. Just wanted to be sure you and your readers were aware of the Digital Preservation Interest Group’s meeting at ALA on Sunday morning:
