MIT Conservation LabNews from MIT, thanks Anne Marie Willar for letting us know this position has been hired. It’s great to see movement and positions being filled.

The MIT Libraries are delighted to announce the appointment of Nancy McGovern to the position of Head, Curation and Preservation Services (CPS) effective Monday, February 13.  Nancy is a highly respected leader in the field of digital curation and preservation with a well-established national and international reputation. She brings 25 years experience with the preservation of digital content and a sound understanding of good practice for the conservation of tangible materials. Moreover, she has a valuable blend of practical experience and theoretical knowledge that will allow her to lead the MIT Libraries in articulating a shared vision and implementing a holistic approach to conservation and preservation.

Nancy along with Anne Kenney, now University Librarian at Cornell University Library, co-developed the highly successful Digital Preservation Management Workshop that Nancy will continue to lead.  She is a member of the faculty for the ARL/DLF e-Science Institute as well as an instructor at UNC’s DigCCurr Professional Institute on Curation Practices for the Digital Object Lifecycle.

Formerly the Digital Preservation Officer and a Research Assistant Professor at the Inter-university Consortium for Political and Social Research (ICPSR), Nancy’s responsibilities included developing policies that reflect prevailing standards and practice in the digital preservation community and developing appropriate preservation strategies for the expanding range of content ICPSR collects. Her research interests include organizational aspects of digital preservation and the means for the digital preservation community to continually respond to the challenges of evolving technology. Before joining ICPSR, Nancy served as a digital preservation manager and researcher at Cornell University Library, as Electronic Records Manager at the Open Society Archives in Budapest, and held various archivist positions at the Center for Electronic Records, National Archives and Records Administration.

Nancy holds a B.A. in History from Saint Anselm College, an M.A. in History from Northeastern University, and a PhD in Information Studies from the University College London.
